Founded in 1979 with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office first K9 unit, the Lakes Area Law Dogs Foundation was established in 2015 to support local K9 teams by funding training, certifications, equipment, and resources through generous community donations.

Meet Our Dogs

K9 Hunter

K9 Hunter is a Malinois/Shepherd Mix born in the Netherlands.

Hunter is a dual purpose K9, certified with the United States Police Canine Association. Hunter is trained in handler protection, criminal apprehension, building and area searches, evidence recovery, tracking and narcotics detection.

K9 Hunter completed his initial training with the Minneapolis Police K9 Unit along with his handler Deputy Jarvi.

Deputy Jarvi and K9 Hunter also attend many community events and appearances throughout the year. He lives with his handler and his family when not working.

K9 Cain

K9 Cain was born in Budapest Hungary. He began his career with DCSO in May of 2021.

K9 Cain is a dual purpose K9, certified with the United States Police Canine Association. Cain is trained in handler protection, criminal apprehension, building and area searches, evidence recovery, tracking and narcotics detection.

Deputy Peper and K9 Cain also attend many community events and appearances throughout the year. He lives with his handler and his family when not working.
